Connect the Collar & Smartphone via Bluetooth

To set the static correction level, connect to Bluetooth. Connecting to Bluetooth is a little different than connecting to a mobile speaker, smartwatch, or your car. You will know you have succeeded when the BT symbol on the collar’s screen turns blue! Here’s how to do it.

  1. Ensure Bluetooth and Location Services are enabled on your smartphone.

  2. Power on your SpotOn collar.

  3. Exit out of any maps/notifications received when powering up. The system cannot connect to Bluetooth if maps are enabled.

  4. Make note of the white “BT” in the upper left-hand corner of the collar display.

  5. In the SpotOn app, go to the Training section and select the Bluetooth button in the upper left-hand corner of the screen (blue circle with white “B”).

  6. Select “SO-SPOTON” (or “SO-[your dog’s name]" if you have a cellular subscription) from the device list.

  7. Once connected, the icons in the middle of the screen should display in color (they are grey when disconnected) and you can train with your pup or adjust your static correction level. Ensure connectivity on the collar by noting the “BT” on the display has changed from white to blue.

  8. Test it out. In the training section, select the alert tone, warning tone or, with the static correction tester pressed firmly on top of the static contact points, select static correction and the tester will light up.

Set the Static Correction Level

In the Training section, tap the Correction Level icon and use the slider to adjust the static correction level. Remember to always start at level one and work your way up. Don’t forget to save by tapping the checkmark!

When you’ve set your static correction level (hit save or the checkmark), you’ll see the red number in the upper left-hand corner of the collar display the level you have selected on the app.

Helpful hints:

  • If you are trying to adjust the static correction level, deactivate your fence first. The SpotOn collar cannot connect to Bluetooth if a fence is active.

  • Since Bluetooth automatically disconnects after few minutes of inactivity, you have to reconnect each time you need the Bluetooth connection.
