We are excited to introduce Extended Battery Life Mode, a new feature that helps your collar last longer between charges.
If you turn on this feature, it will extend the number of hours your collar can go without a charge. It does this by disabling tracking features while your dog is inside the fence. This means you cannot refresh your dog's location if they are in the fence; instead, it will be updated every 10 minutes. Live tracking will activate immediately if the dog escapes the boundary, so you can still track your dog to their location.
Understanding the Trade-Offs
When you activate this mode, you must be aware of the following functionality trade-offs:
Unavailable Features: Manual tracking, location refresh, call dog, and remote light capabilities are unavailable in this mode. However, the dog's location is updated every 10 minutes while inside the fence.
Real-Time tracking starts automatically if the dog breaches the fence.
Bluetooth Requirement: Activation and deactivation of Extended Battery Life Mode requires a Bluetooth connection, so you need to be within range of the collar to switch modes.
How to access Extended Battery Life Mode
Customers can manually activate the Extended Battery Life Mode through the SpotOn GPS Fence app. This feature requires an active SpotOn cellular plan subscription. Learn more about cellular subscriptions.
If you do NOT have a subscription, you must update your collar software and get the latest version of the SpotOn app to optimize battery life. SpotOn will automatically apply extended battery life to collars without a subscription.
Follow these steps:
1. Update your collar software to the latest version. Firmware version 1.5.0.0 or higher has this feature. [see: How do I know that SpotOn has the latest software?]
2. Update the SpotOn app to version 1.4.25 or higher.
3. Open the SpotOn GPS Fence App: Ensure your app is updated to version 1.4.25 or above. Enable Bluetooth on your phone and ensure you’re within range of the collar.
4. Navigate to Collar Settings: Go to the settings section of your collar.
5. Enable Extended Battery Life Mode (Beta): Find the toggle option for Extended Battery Life Mode labeled as a Beta feature. Switch it on. This will move your collar to Extended Battery Life Mode, extending battery life but limiting some tracking features.
